World Haemophilia Day

Be inspired, get involved in Treatment for All

Every year on April 17, World Hemophilia Day is celebrated around the world in order to increase awareness of hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders.

The first World Hemophilia Day took place in 1989. The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) chose April 17 in honour of WFH founder Frank Schnabel, who was born on that day.

This year’s theme is “Be inspired, get involved in Treatment for All’.

On World Hemophilia Day 2011, inspire others with your story of living with or treating a bleeding disorder and show your commitment to achieving treatment for all. This year’s theme celebrates supporting positive change for people with bleeding disorders and encouraging others to do the same. By working together and inspiring each other for a brighter future, we can achieve Treatment for All.

For World Hemophilia Day 2011, WFH will be sharing inspiring stories of people with bleeding disorders, patient leaders, and the healthcare professionals who are commited to improving their own lives and the lives of all those with bleeding disorders, and encouraging everyone in the community to share his or her own story. Through our stories and successes, we have the power to bring about change by highlighting discrepancies in care globally, by showing how others in similar situations have improved care and by recognizing World Hemophilia Day as an opportunity to make the case for better treatment for all people with bleeding disorders.

WFH have several tools to help you get involved including a fact sheet, template press release, poster and ideas for activities. Click here for more information available at the WFH website.
