what's new in bleeding disorders

2022 WORLD CONGRESSES

So much is changing so quickly in bleeding disorders and it can be a challenge to step back and see the bigger picture. The 2022 international conferences have tackled some of new issues facing us today as well as where we are going with treatment and care for all bleeding disorders.

In this issue of National Haemophilia we hear from Shauna Adams who attended the WFH World Congress and GNMO Training as a youth delegate. Our Congress reports cover the hot topics – moving on from COVID-19 and new trends in virtual care, new haemophilia therapies, including gene therapy, women and girls with haemophilia, and VWD.

HEP C

Our feature on World Hepatitis Day takes stock of the international campaign to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030 and where we need to be proactive. With highly effective treatments now available, it's important to reach everyone who was at risk for hep C so that they can be tested and access treatment if they do have hep C. Managing liver health after treatment is also a priority.

Our thanks to John and Jake for sharing their experiences with hep C – clearing the virus or being cured and looking after their liver health. Their stories are compelling and are well worth the read, even if you are not affected personally by hep C.

BEING INVOLVED

Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month is coming up in October – a whole month to raise awareness about bleeding disorders.

If you are wondering how you can be part of the month, have a look at the suggestions in National Haemophilia for some inspiration and find out how to order your promotional items.

We will launch our calendar of activities soon – watch this space!

And in Youth News, Chris tells his story of becoming a youth leader with his local Haemophilia Foundation and the very positive experiences he has had. And how different life with haemophilia is these days with a new treatment!
