Youth Lead Connect is an exciting HFA youth leadership and mentoring program to build education and life skills for young people. The program is designed to benefit both individuals and the bleeding disorders community:
- For youth it helps personal development and build connections with others living with a bleeding disorder.
- For the bleeding disorders community it develops and trains young community representatives. They will be able to participate in leadership and mentoring activities at local camps and events and make sure a youth voice is represented.
Youth Lead Connect currently has two different activities which are generally run in alternate years.
- The first is the Youth Lead Connect training program, which allows young people to attend a training weekend to help them build leadership skills. These young people then return home where, with the support of their local foundation and HFA, they complete projects, known as Leadership Achievement Goals, to benefit the young people in their community and further develop their skills. Examples of past achievement goals include running social events to build connections amongst young people, volunteering at family camps, and sharing their experiences via Factored In. Some previous graduates from this program have gone on to become members of their local foundation committees.
A date has not been set for the next YLC program yet, but keep an eye on Factored In for more information about this program, including eligibility criteria, how to apply, and examples of previous achievement goals. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
- The other YLC activity is the Youth Canoe Journey. This is a challenge-based trip, with the aims of building up teamwork, organisation and leaderships skills. Participants will take an active role in the organisation of the event and it is hoped that this adventure will help them build the confidence to allow them to become more active in their communities.
The Youth Canoe Journey is an extension of the Youth Lead Connect Program and it aims to build education and life skills for young people. The program is designed to assist young people in their personal development and build connections with others living with a bleeding disorder. We hope to empower participants to work on their personal development and build connections with others living with a bleeding disorder. Participants will be challenged to work as a team, overcome obstacles, and develop initiative skills, as well as having fun. You can find more information on the trip, and how to apply over on Factored In
