Can you believe we’re halfway through the year already? In June we participated in Men’s Health Week, encouraging men and boys in our community to prioritise their health and wellbeing.
We also celebrated World Music Day, featuring Fernando, a young person with a bleeding disorder and a passion for guitar.
And we have a new gene therapy interview to watch (or listen to via podcast) – this time Dom shares his experience. For Dom, gene therapy wasn’t successful, but it still had a positive impact on his life.
We’re also very excited to announce that the 2026 edition of the Newly Diagnosed folder is now available to order. And while you’re at it, you can also pre-order your promo items for Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month!
As always, thanks for reading and being a part of our community.

Fernando on guitar for World Music Day
We have many fantastic musicians in the Australian bleeding disorders community, but at 11yo, Fernando might be our youngest.
Sunday 21 June was World Music Day and to celebrate, we shared Fernando’s story, and a clip of him playing Paradise by Coldplay.
Fernando has been gradually building his confidence and skill at guitar, and even put on a performance at the Haemophilia Foundation Victoria Camp earlier this year. Go Fernando!

Men’s Health Week
Men’s Health Week ran from 15-21 June 2026 and was an opportunity to share stories and information encouraging men and boys in our community to prioritise their health and wellbeing.
As part of the week, we explored:
• Why you need a GP (even if you see your HTC regularly)
• How eating healthy can help people with bleeding disorders, and
• An interview with Neil, who shares his tips for keeping active and staying positive with a bleeding disorder.

*NEW* Newly Diagnosed Folder
The 2026 edition of our Newly Diagnosed folder is now available for pre-order!
This comprehensive guide for parents of a child diagnosed with haemophilia will walk you through everything – from treatment and recognising a bleed, to growth and development, and parenting a child with haemophilia.
Thank you so much to all the health professionals and community members whose extraordinary efforts have helped put this resource together.

Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month
It is only 3 months to October – and Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month!
To help you raise awareness, we have a mix of free promo items including balloons, pens, posters, activity sheets and kids toys. And to take some of the agony out of deciding how much of each item to get, this year we’ve simplified the ordering process.
Simply choose a small, medium or large pack and we’ll send you a selection of items to spruce up your office, school or information stand.
Orders will be posted mid-September. If you require them earlier, please let us know.

Dom’s gene therapy experience
Are you worried that gene therapy won’t work for you? For Dom, it didn’t. However that hasn’t stopped it from being life-changing – for the better.
Dom talks honestly about his life prior to gene therapy, and how participating in the clinical trial helped him to find purpose and be part of the greater treatment journey for everyone with haemophilia.
“I won’t see the success of it, but I know someone else will.”
