August 2026 Newsletter

August has arrived and with it a new edition of National Haemophilia. This massive issue covers World Haemophilia Day, the Women Bleed Too survey results, and over 20 pages of WFH 2026 World Congress reports and reflections from our health professionals and community members.

Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month is only two short months away, coming up in October. Jasmin shares her and Lincoln’s story, describing how they brought their community together and raised awareness through hosting Red Cake Days.

The end of the year (and start of 2027) is jam-packed with State/Territory foundation events in ACT, NSW, QLD, VIC and WA. Scroll down for a list and details on how you can join in.

And don’t forget to have your say in the HFA National Survey. Closing at the end of August, this is your opportunity to shape the future of HFA’s services and activities.

Thank you for being part of our community 🥰

HFA National Survey

Share your feedback about HFA

Let us know how we can best provide services and be relevant to you and the bleeding disorders community now and in the future.

The HFA National Survey is an important opportunity to share your experience with our services, resources and programs, your suggestions on how to improve them and what you think is needed for the future.

We invite you to give your views on our priority areas, the effectiveness of our communication channels, the usefulness of our resources and your ideas on what else to cover.

Your feedback will help shape HFA for years to come. Please complete the survey by Monday 31 August 2026.

Bel presenting at Congress

Reports from WFH World Congress

The WFH 2026 World Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia brought together more than 1,900 delegates from 130 countries.

This included a wide range of people from the global bleeding disorders community – people with bleeding disorders, national member organisations like HFA, health professionals, researchers and industry.

Australia was well-represented – as speakers, poster presenters and as delegates. In this issue of National Haemophilia we feature over 20 pages of reports from delegates about sessions they attended and the key messages they took home from the discussions.

Woman looking into distance

Women Bleed Too survey results

The HFA Women Bleed Too survey explored the experiences of Australian women and girls with bleeding disorders in health care settings, and what tools or resources can help.

In National Haemophilia we share the results – how many people participated, what their experiences have been, what tools and resources they’ve used, and what else is needed.

“I told every doctor I was a symptomatic carrier of haemophilia before major surgery last year. None took it seriously until I was a MET call post op. Bleeding into hip after a hip replacement.”

Red Cake Day - Lincoln and Jasmin

Red Cake Day – Jasmin and Lincoln’s story

Lincoln was diagnosed with haemophilia B at just 12 weeks old. Two weeks later, Jasmin held her first Red Cake Day, starting what would become a yearly tradition and an opportunity to connect, raise awareness, and foster a genuine sense of belonging.

10 years on, Lincoln has become an advocate in his own right, and a role model for other younger children and families.

“ [Red Cake Day] sparked conversations, built understanding and gave us a way to focus on raising awareness of bleeding disorders.”

🎈 Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month is held every year in October. You can host your own Red Cake Day – and get some fun, free promotional items – find out more.
