Congress – Global National Member Organisation Training

CLAUDIO DAMIANI

Claudio Damiani is HFA Vice-President and HFACT Secretary

The WFH Global National Member Organisation (NMO) Training provided an amazing opportunity to meet people involved in bleeding disorders from around the world. At one point I caught myself scanning my table during one of the training sessions and realising how diverse my training group was – people from across Africa, South America and Europe, as well as myself from Australia, sitting at the one table working through real problems and identifying solutions as part of uplifting NMO capacity and capability. It was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas, learn from others, and reinforce what a wonderful job our NMO here in Australia, Haemophilia Foundation Australia (HFA), is doing on behalf of the bleeding disorders community across Australia.

Above all, undertaking the NMO training with people from across the world provided me with a greater insight into the challenges people with a bleeding disorder from many developing countries face. Access to treatment can be patchy, or very limited, levels of care are significantly below what we have come to expect within Australia, and coordinated advocacy and support is limited. If there was ever a reminder required about how fortunate we are in Australia, this NMO training provided it.

Lastly, I want to thank HFA for giving me the opportunity to undertake the NMO training. It was an experience I will not forget.

Claudio Damiani was assisted by funding from HFA to attend the Global NMO Training and the WFH 2026 World Congress.
